Adder Sells for a Whopping $1.2 Million
The new world record for the most expensive piece of software ever sold has just been set. Adder, a British software company, has just sold its trademarked software to an anonymous bidder for 1.2 million pounds, or about $1.9 million USD.
The bidding started at 500,000 pounds, but escalated quickly as multiple parties entered the fray. In the end, it was a representative from a Russian software company that walked away with the prized possession.
When asked why they paid so much for the software, they only replied "It's a good investment." Adder's spokesperson was unavailable for comment.
This new record beats out the previous record holder, Microsoft Office 2003, which sold for $1.5 million in 2007.
Rare Adder Fetches Over $1 Million at Auction
In a rather surprising turn of events, a rare adder has fetched over $1 million at auction. The snake, which is native to the United Kingdom, was auctioned off to an anonymous bidder on Sunday.
This particular adder is quite rare, as it is estimated that there are only 250 of them left in the wild. It is also considered to be one of the most venomous snakes in Europe, with a bite that can be deadly.
While this may seem like a high price to pay for a snake, it is actually lower than what some experts were predicting. Some believed that the snake could fetch as much as $2 million at auction.
The adder was discovered by chance by an employee of the Herpetological Conservation Trust (HCT), who was out searching for other snakes in the area. The HCT immediately put the snake up for auction, in order to help protect it from being killed by people who view them as pests.
The winning bid of $1.1 million is still quite a bit less than what was paid for a white rhino in Namibia last year, but it's still enough to make headlines.
